How could these films have been forgotten?

Taking a look at some of the films/artists that should have been nominated for OSCARS®.

🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆

There are always movies that are snubbed when it comes to major awards shows. Having watched a lot of the nominated movies, I can agree that a LOT of them are well deserving. There are so many other movies; however, that I feel absolutely should have gotten nominated. I don't mean to take away from the achievements of the current nominees, I just wish the following films/artists could also have made the cut!

Without further ado:

FIRST COW should have been nominated in the following categories:

Best Film

Best Director - Kelly Reichardt

Supporting Actor - Orion Lee

Adapted Screenplay

Film editing and Cinematography

🐄🐄🐄🐄🐄

I was devastated when this GEM of a film was not nominated for anything. This was easily one of the best movies of last year, and the lack of nominations at the major awards is a terrible crime. Kelly Reichardt paints a beautiful story of friendship and the power of having a dream. This is one of the most beautiful films I've seen. I would also like to suggest an animal-tamer/animal category because Evie the cow stole my heart.

THE VAST OF NIGHT should have at LEAST been nominated in these three categories:

Best Director - Andrew Patterson

Best Cinematography and Film Editing

AND The lead actors need to be acknowledged in some way - Jake Horowitz is damn good. He literally electrifies. And then there's Sierra McCormick (yes THAT Sierra McCormick from the Disney Channel Original Series A.N.T. Farm). She is absolutely ablaze in this film! She delivers some very difficult monologues with such prowess it's incredible. I was blown away by every scene she was in. Even the ones where she was just connecting phone lines and not speaking. Incredible.

🛸🛸🛸🛸🛸

I was absolutely swept away by this movie! This film is a very strong argument for having a "Debut filmmaker" category. This is Andrew Patterson's first foray into a feature film, and it does not deserve to be forgotten. Everything in this film is wonderful: from the awesome shots to the incredible directing, to the sci-fi classics referenced throughout the whole film. I cannot get over how awesome this film is. This is in my top 5 of last year, and top 25 overall!

THE ASSISTANT should have been nominated in the following categories:

Best Film

Best Actress - Julia Garner

Best Director - Kitty Green

Best Original Screenplay

💼💼💼💼💼

If anything, Julia Garner deserved a nomination here. Arguments could be made for not nominating it in other categories, which is fine but snubbing Julia Garner is unforgivable. Her performance in this film elevates this to one of my top 20. She provides an amazing amount of nuance that adds to just how uncomfortable this film is supposed to make you. You may not have been nominated, Ms. Garner, but in my book, this is one of the best performances ever. This is my personal #3 of the year!

PALM SPRINGS should have been nominated for everything. I'm serious.

Best Film

Best Director - Max Barbakow

Best Actor - Andy Samberg

Best Actress (possibly: supporting?) - Cristin Milioti

Supporting Actor - J.K. Simmons

Best Original Screenplay, Film Editing, Cinematography, Sound, even the Effects!

🌴🌴🌴🌴🌴

My #2 of the year. Seriously, this movie is a pleasant surprise. Groundhog Day meets rom-com meets thriller. The original screenplay snub is the biggest here (along with Milioti and Samberg if I'm being honest). This is one of the most original movies I have seen in a very long time. I absolutely will defend this film until I die, and it's in my top 15. I have already seen it twice and I will not be stopping there.

And finally, the biggest snubs of the OSCARS® are:

Zendaya. Zendaya, Zendaya, Zendaya.

MALCOLM & MARIE missed out on its only chance for a nomination:

Best Actress - Zendaya

🎬🎬🎬🎬🎬

This is Zendaya's film. She OWNS every single second she's on-screen. That Dress. That KNIFE scene?! I will not spoil it. Seeing her playing an adult? Thank you. Zendaya is electrifying in this film, and she deserves the world for this performance. I am so excited to see her in more films! Other than her, this film is abysmal. I tried to write a review, but I couldn't, and all you need to know is that Zendaya is incredible and that Sam Levinson is pretentious.

ANOTHER ROUND -

Now you might be saying: "but Mikey! It got two nominations!" you're right! And they are SO well deserved. BUT this is my top film of the year, and it's #6 all-time for me. That's how good I feel this movie is.

I am SO happy that it got nominated for International Feature Film and Best Director. The Best Director nomination for Thomas Vinterberg was such a surprise, and it was lovely. HOWEVER! This film is just one of the best things I have ever watched. So, without further ado!

🍾🍾🍾🍾🍾

Another Round should have been nominated for these categories:

Best Film - So much heart, great directing, and superb all-around acting.

Best Actor - Mads Mikkelsen - Just, this is his best role. I swear. He deserves everything for this role because he really did put everything into it. Especially the dancing!

Best Supporting Actor(s) - Any of the supporting males. I'm serious. They're all amazing.

Best Original Screenplay - I love this film

Any and all technical categories

Also, wait a minute - why isn't there a choreography category?

This film deserves everything. The nomination in Best Director for Vinterberg makes me quite hopeful for the international feature win.

Thank you for sticking around and reading this long article! All of the opinions are my own. I'll say it one more time, I am in no way trying to take away from the currently nominated films/artists, I just wish these could be ADDED to the nominations, not taking away from anyone's nomination and success.

I will be writing something else in relation to the OSCARS®, probably after the SAG awards on the 4th of April. In the meantime, I'm re-upping my dedication to this blog and will be posting more.

🏆Thank you, everyone!🏆
